Wholesale Fashion Jewelry DozenQ.This is not altogether off-topic, although it probably won't apply to a lot of folks; please, just ignore it if you're not interested rather than flame me. My son recently opened a store and is selling a small variety of clothing (t-shirts, hats, costume jewelry, etc.), and has a sales tax exemption permit, etc. He is also selling a small variety of other goods, and in that sense his store is a "variety shop" of sorts. We are finished with most of our most basic "survival" preps such as food, fuel, ammo, and some _medicines_. Well, now that my son has opened his store, I've been thinking that we ought to try to buy the rest of what we need at wholesale prices, and I presume that these would be even cheaper than what Sam's sells the stuff for. For example, I wouldn't mind getting about a gross of the little boxes of a dozen mason jar lids; I ought to be able to get them, in that large of a quantity, at the same price that a grocer pays. The same way with bars of soap, tooth paste, and deodorant -- we neglected out hygiene supplies except for toilet paper ;-) since we were trying to first buy what we absolutely need to survive; well, even if cases of that stuff are more than we'll need while y2k problems persist, we can always use the stuff for barter. The problem is that my son, who is just a kid and new to business, and myself (even less knowledgeable about such stuff) are absolutely clueless as to who to contact, or where to even look in the phone book. I've thought that, as a last resort, I could just look for addresses of the companies on the packaging for their products, but first I thought that I would try this group which always impresses me with the scope and depth of its knowledge. A.If he has a tax-exemption certificate, he can contact any distributor of the products he wants and ask for prices - stating that he is a store owner, etc. Check the yellow pages for distributors. You probably would not be buying in large enough quantities to buy directly from a manufacturer. Your son will not get pricing better than Sam's/Costco/BJ's--the volume is not there! To get a price better than the *selling* price at one of the club-type stores, he'd need a "real" store--store front, lights, employees, warehouse space and, of course, customers. However, you might find vendors willing to arrange special prices on samples, demo supplies, promotional items, etc. that would be significantly below market prices. They might also be able to help with operational and financial areas such as floor-planning, factoring, vendor-credit, merchandising, co-op advertising, etc. Other Questions : Antons Fine Jewelry ?I'm a new commer to the field of jewelry business and looking for information.
