Trillion Cut Diamond Ring?Q.1) Pawn shops have some great deals 2) Classified ads have some great deals if you know what you want 3) Best Bet - Go to a gem and jewelry show (there's one in Baltimore this weekend) they are all over the country, you can pick your stone (kind, size, etc) and get it set there in a semimount (ring part). I did this and got a 1 carat oval (great color, cut and clarity) and had it set in a mount of channel set diamonds. The cost was 25% of the replacement cost when it was appraised. I also did this with a ruby 1.33 ct set with 2 trillion diamonds for 15% of the appraised value. A.I think that big knobby diamond rings look cliche and boring. They're always getting caught on something, and the big ones put you at risk of theft. You always have to worry about it. My own choice is my gold band. It means as much to me as anything DeBeers could brainwash me into wanting. My younger sister married several years before I did, and got a traditional diamond engagement ring. My Steve offered to get me a diamond, but I didn't want it. Never have regretted my choice either. I must confess that my fiancee did a helluva job on designing my ring. The first wife got this 10k diamond 10 years ago. He felt he had to exceed that and it had to be dramatic...no solitaires here!! He went to a wholesale jeweler friend of his and was telling him what I liked. He ended up choosing a 7 carat Brazilian Indicalite (a very wild deep rich green/blue). When he had that stone on the felt, they were playing with round diamonds around it, emerald cuts and baguettes. As fate would have it, a complete accident design happened. The ring looks like a flower and most of the petals have been pulled off. This big stone in the center, 20 point round diamonds around most of the stone; however, from the 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock position, there are 3 baguette diamonds pointing outwards (no it's never been caught on anything). I call it my Love Me Love Me Not ring and receive compliments on it daily. The ring came in at around 3500 and has just been appraised at 14k. Smart man he is!!!!
