Titanium Rings ?
Q.I wish I had looked into titanium. The white gold on my engagement ring is starting to yellow. Is titanium shiny or flat in color? Does anyone know of a jeweler in the Atlanta, GA area that offers a selection of titanium bands?
A.Do you know if titanium bands can be re-sized? I've read a little bit about titanium bands being made of a single piece of hollowed out metal, and I got the impression that they couldn't be. This would worry me because both my grandmother and my mom had to have rings re-sized when they got older (the skin on knuckles gets looser.) I wonder what women do when their rings won't fit during pregnancy. Just wait until they have the baby to wear them again? The low price of titanium is a *big* plus, and I also like the different looks they can create by mixing it with other metals. I've never gotten to try one on because I've never found a local shop that sells them. Do you like feeling of a light weight ring better? I've been leaning towards platinum, which can feel pretty heavy if you have a wide band. (And of course, it's expensive.) It's extremely difficult. Most jewelers don't work with Titanium and wouldn't know how to do it--you would NOT want to take a Ti ring to a goldsmith or silversmith to be resized. My partner and I can stretch out a Ti ring about half a size, but it would be very difficult to get it back down to a smaller size if necessary after a pregnancy. Depends on the construction technique. Our bands are solid Ti, and it is possible to stretch them a little with the correct equipment. However, it's much easier to make a whole new band. Platinum is much heavier than Ti or gold. That said, some people prefer a substantial-feeling, heavy band. We're going to have Titanium bands with 18K gold inlay. My fiance also wants to wear one of my "everyday" Ti bands as an engagement ring. My engagement ring is an heirloom ring, and I love the contrast of the very traditional engagement ring and what will be a very modern wedding band.
