Pay tag price for Tiffany engagement ring ?
Q.I am considering purchase of an engagement ring from Tiffany. Does anyone know if they will bargain off the tag price, and by how much ?
A.We looked at rings at Tiffany. All I can say is: If you want to haggle on the price, you're at the wrong place. If you want Tiffany, buy them. If you want a good stone at a reasonable price, you're crazy to shop there. You can find higher quality diamonds in better settings than we saw at significantly lower prices (%50 off) if you do some research and comparative shopping. We finally eschewed Tiffany's six-prong setting for a 4 prong solitare that while less delicate, gives a better profile of the stone. Remember to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Tiffany includes GIA certificates, so compare their prices to other GIA certified diamonds. If someone tells you they do their own certification, or if it's an agency that you don't recognize (such as some of the EGL offices (not counting EGL in Los Angeles)) then treat them in their own category. Your best bet is to buy a good book on diamond grading, this isn't rocket science, an hour of reading and a few hours of comparative shopping is a real eye-opener.
