the silver jewelry storage problem ?
Q.The redoubtable Karen, known already to Seattle Metalheads members, has been collecting Native American silver jewelry for a few years now. She's a great gal. Consider for a moment. When I bought a knuckle boom truck to bring home more and larger machines, did she complain? No, she went out and learned rigger's hand signals and how to secure loads. When I told her our house needed a shop she had no problem helping me buy a house with hundreds of feet of roll-in dry lit shop space. She stands up to huge greasy machines showing up, to crowds of metalheads invading her space, she even bakes for us. Now she wants something. She wants to be able to look at her silver jewelry to pick out what to wear. But she wants it to be in a tarnish- retarding environment. Is there some substance that will preferentially oxidize over silver, such that a cloth could be permeated with the substance, and the silver layed out on the cloth? Is it ridiculous to even consider a gas-tight cabinet which could be charged with nitrogen after opening? What do you guys think? I'd ask in a more appropriate place except I don't know of one. Ideal would be plans or even a product I could buy
A.- Just an idea, maybe lousy, but easy and cheap to try. There is a metal polish called Nevr-Dull (Brooklyn, NY I think) which is in the form of cotton wadding saturated with some solvent and maybe a little abrasive, packaged in a wide-mouth metal
