Princess Cut Diamond Necklace

Q.We are going out this weekend to buy one. Don't know price range at the moment. Any suggestions? Comments? I'm definately going with a diamond of some sort, leaning toward a solitaire. Anybody got a silver instead of the traditional gold band/ring? Also what kind of price range did you all go with?

A.You and your mom and grandma may have a stronger metal than my mom had. Also I'd be willing to guess that my mom was no where near as careful as you are. That may be good enough. My sister has 6 prongs and they tend to bend alot. She is careful to bring it in to the jewelers whenever she sees any problem. I have 6 prongs, and they are HUGE. I've not been able to damage them yet. They don't much interfere with the diamond's sparkle for two reasons. One is that it is white gold. the other is that I inherited an older diamond. It isn't cut to best advantage like modern diamonds are and it has a few flaws. I could have had it recut but it would have been a good bit smaller and might have made the flaws more obvious (I think they are almost impossible to observe without looking hard). So plenty of light gets to it to show off the simple cut. I wouldn't worry if I were you. Just keep an eye on the condition of those prongs and if they seem to be bending at all or if the stone seems wobbly, take it in to a good jeweler before you get a chance to lose the stone. If you need to take it in more often than you like, you might check into getting a few more prongs. i believe a new set of prongs can be put in without altering the ring otherwise. I'm thinking of going with platinum instead of gold. Supposed to be stronger and the silver color will go with my diamond cross necklace I got from my mother.... I will be wearing both all the time... Congratulations on your engagement. I would recommend that you set aside several days to look for your rings. My husband really didn't have much of an opinion on anything other than our rings and our cake. Our wedding rings don't match exactly but they are very similar in style. We lucked out and found rings we loved at a store that was having a major sale and clearance. We only paid $400 for both rings. They are 10K gold (we both work with our hands and were worried about damage to the rings). I am a larger woman and my ring is larger so it will fit me more.
