Loose Colored Diamonds.Q.I always see brilliant and marquis (sometime princess cut or pear). I've read something about the shape of your diamond matching your personality. Has anyone else ever read this? I don't remember what all the diamonds represent, though. A.My husband took mine out in the sunlight to see which one sparkled the most. It was not the cut necessarily, but the color as well. He looked at loose diamonds, not diamonds in rings. He did not like any of the diamonds they had already set, so they let him look at the many many loose diamonds they had. The conclusion he came to was that color was the thing that made the most difference to the naked eye. He chose the diamond that was the most perfect in color that he could afford. It was very expensive (much more than I would spend or any of my friends would spend). We were both in college when we got engaged, so I did not expect such a large diamond, especially not one with such good quality. I disagree with the fact that size matters. I think most girls here would agree that they would rather have the quality, rather than the size. I wouldn't have minded a smaller diamond with the same quality or better. I love my diamond, and I'm glad he did not sacrifice quality for size. I would NEVER want him to do that ever!! You are right that the clarity really doesn't matter that much. It does matter more on larger diamonds, but they are so much more expensive. If you up the clarity even by one on a 1 ct. diamond, you are looking at a couple thousand dollars!! If you up the color, you are looking at a whole lot more (like AT LEAST $5000 more!!). My old college roommate worked at a jewelry store -- that is how I know all these details. If the diamond is smaller, the price difference is not near as much. I would go for color over clarity, but I would not go for size over the two of those.
