Jewelry-making software
Q.I'm looking for good software for jewelry design. Have been looking at "Jewel Cad" and "Gemvision", but both is far too expensive for me. Anyone know some good - and not too expensive software? Working mostly in plain metals, - not so much gems.
A.Check out Amapi 3D solid modeler at http://www.amapi.com It's under $400 and can be found at many retail and on-line distributors. It is a very good program but does not get a lot of publicity because they don't spend a lot on advertising budget. It's not specifically for jewelry design, but many of the 3D functions are very good for this purpose. There are some excellent smoothing, twisting, blending kinds of functions. Not just a jewelry design software package. You can design anything you damn well please. Another great program for this purpose, albeit a bit more expensive, Rhino by Rhino 3d at http://www.rhino3d.com/ You can download a demo copy of both these programs, so you can try them out before you buy.
