A.I took my fiancee shopping for a diamond engagement ring on my last visit to Bkk. After humoring me in the shop for a while, on leaving she told me that as a Thai woman, to whom a diamond ring is not a traditional engagement gift, she would really prefer that I save my money and spend it on something that would be more meaningful to her. Actually my wife said a similar thing with her engagement ring. We gave the money to her father to upgrade his house. She just wears a plain Thai gold band. She didn't say "no jewelry", she just said "no diamond ring". She indicated that a diamond bracelet might be nice... I bought that in the US, which took some of the thrill out of it (non-Thai gold), but due to the generally larger size of farang women's wrists, I had to have a link taken out of it that I had converted into a necklace pendant.
