Fashion Jewelry And AccessoryQ.I am involved in the fashion jewelry/accessory business with manufacturers designing and merchandising fashion and trend jewelry. We are finding that in spite of economic recovery, it is really difficult to figure out what people want on a retail level. Earlier this year, of course, we have a nice run with the Melrose Necklaces. (also called the Y-neck) Now that this item is over it's hard to say what trend in "ready to wear" will translate for my industry. We are doing some things related to animal prints and clunkier necks, but I'd like to know what people outside the industry think they'd like to see. Or is everyone spending all their disposable income on computers and cd's? I would like very much to hear from anyone who would care to make an observation on this matter or any thoughts at all related to fashion jewelry (not precious metals) or accessories. A.I am a big fan of jewelry made by artisans and tend to purchase from museum gift shops, boutiques and recently from Nordstrom's. I stay away from the typical fads. If it's at a store like Claire's or Afterthoughts I probably shouldn't be wearing it but my teenage girls should. Personally, I find the gold color in much of the fashion jewelry to be too brassy and fake looking. I have a necklace that I love wearing which is a much lighter shade of gold, sort of a mix between gold and platinum. This works *very* well with the neutral Armani/Klein type of clothes. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find earrings to go with it. I also love the colors in Black Hills Gold. The grapevine/leaf designs are too repetitive but the colors are great. I'd love to see shades like this is more contemporary styles. I like the flattened type of bangles in a bracelet. The round ones bang/clang too much in doing computer work. And the flatter ones don't get scratched as much. Speaking of which, I'd like to see more texture in these bangles so they don't show scratches. Or better yet, a smooth bangle that doesn't scratch. (I know, I know, I'm dreaming here...) I also like the riccio-type jewelry. I think it's very elegant and works well with dress as well as casual clothes. My company recently went all business casual in dress so this is important. I have a riccio bracelet in sterling with 18-carat overlay and I *love* it. Frankly, I stay away from the flash-in-the-pan types of trends like the Y-necklace because I know they will look dated in a short time and are therefore not worth the investment. I'd rather go with updated classics in jewelry Other Questions : Class Lost Ring Senior, Resizing a ring ?I found my wedding ring that has been lost for four years.
