diamond pricing

Q.I was wondering about the price per carat weight of small diamonds that jewelers use for pave settings on bracelets, rings, etc... most of the stones are prob around 10-20 points in size. I have gotten quotes of $500 per carat to $700 per carat for round and princess cut stones. So a mans bracelet with 20 carat of 10-20 point rounds would be in the 10k to 15k range. This is the price jewelers quoted me to make the bracelet . I am just interested to see if these small stones are worth that money. I really like the look of the pave bracelets. Just want an opinion of price.

A.If you are being quoted $500-700 per carat for 10 pointers (at retail), than you are getting low quality diamonds. I pay more than double (wholesale) for the 10 pointers that I use in my work. The quality grades of the stones I use is color D E F, clarity VS. Top quality make. Also 10 pointers are typically not used in pave. 10 pointers in pave would be enormous (huge, gargantuan). Pave ususally does not go over 3 to 5 points as the larger stones. Between 1 and 3 is most common. So if you had that bracelet made with 20 carats worth of 10 pointers. You will own 20 carats of very low quality diamonds.
