Coin Pearl JewelryQ.During my recent efforts to pare down my wardrobe and accessories, I decided to sell off a number of pieces of jewelry that I have "collected" during 22 years of marriage, gifts from others, and gifts to myself. There are things that I have kept for my daughter, daughter-in-law, "grand-daughter in progress", and niece. There are special pieces that I inherited from my grandmother that, while they don't have a high $$$ value, have a high sentimental value. Many pieces, however, just were not "me" any longer. I put a few pieces on eBay and took others to a local gold, coin, and antique store. The dollars added up and before I knew it, I had enough to buy myself something that I had my eye on for some time -- a Cartier Tank Francaise watch. Here was something that I would wear very often and would not go out of style. Have any of you done this? and were you able to get a special something that you had your eye on? A.Jewelry is never something that I think to "get rid of" for some reason... most of my jewelry actually has no sentimental value. For example, the five some pearl necklaces I've accumulated through asking for "one pearl necklace" as a gift for my birthday. Note to self: Only ask one person for one thing. I hear that the resale value of jewelry is very low, however... I wonder if its worth reselling or if I should just save it for my children (who aren't anywhere close to coming into existance). But evidently, you found that it was worth it to sell your jewelry! I'll bet your tank watch is just a beauty I've been watching my jewelry collection grow and grow over the years, and many of my pieces are just not my style anymore. I've decided to start giving them to my daughters as added Christmas and birthday gifts, so they can enjoy them now and take ownership of them while I'm still alive and well. This year I'm giving my 20 year old a necklace with 5 diamonds lined up in a sort of 'v' shape. I think it'll look fantastic on her. I'll have to tuck away pieces for my younger daughter as she's going through a silver phase (doesn't want her jewelry to clash with her braces) and is not yet responsible enough for gold.
