Does anyone have any cleaning tips for sterling silver jewelry ?

Q.Sterling silver jewelry! Traditional styles and spicy new trends of the precious white metal that make scintillating jewelry, don't we love it!! But I hate when it gets dull! I need cleaning tips!! If you have any cleaning tips for sterling silver jewelry ?

A.If you are cleaning silver you need the following: A plastic bowl of about 10 to 12 inches in diameter, that can hold about a quart of water. About 4 to 6 tablespoons of washing soda ( Arm And Hammer Washing Soda is good ) 1 aluminum pie plate or a piece of solid aluminum of about 8 to 10 inches diameter or square. Place the aluminum at the bottom of the bowl. Fill the bowl about 1/2 way with warm water. Put in about 4 table spoons of washing soda. Stir very well. Now put the silver objects down on the aluminum surface. The cleaning action can take about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how thick the oxide is. As this is used, the reaction will get weaker, and the water and soda will have to eventualy be changed. NEVER use a metal or steel bowl!!! Depending on the atomic difference, the metal may be transfered to the silver. You do not want this! The excersise here is to remove the silver oxide by electrolysis effect. The reaction of the washing soda makes a weak alkeli solution, and the atomic dis-similiar properties of the metals make an anode to cathode effect. The silver oxide is then transfered to the aluminum plate by a self electrolysis effect. There were some products on the market sold as magic silver cleaners. They showed in the adds, that the person put this plate in a plastic bowl of water, put his silver items on top and they were cleaned. This gadget was sold for about 30 to 50 bucks, which was a low cost piece of aluminum. Naturally it was cut and polished to look exotic. Any piece of clean scrap aluminum will work, as long as it is very pure, and has a large surface area. Even aluminum foil will work, but it is not preferable. An aluminum pie plate will have enough mass to do this. Do not use your high quality aluminum baking pans! Get some of those low cost aluminum pie plates from the food store, or a dollar store.
