Q.Why is jewelry any different than any other item? I have sold Vintage Costume Jewelry and never had any problems. I know there are a lot of 'fakes' out there, but an honest, knowledgeable seller should not have any problems if they watch out for fakes. What is the basis of this so-called rule of 25?
A.-Well, basically it is immediately after rule 24, and just before rule 26. Does that clarify things for you? Actually if you also apply Don's 30:1 rule, you can do quite well. Buy it at $25.00 and sell it for $750.00 I not sure how good Don's rule is though, as unlike Rita's rule it lacks a number. Maybe that means that it isn't a real rule -Chanel flaunted the fake aspect of her creations. She said, in fact, "The jewelry I made is fake and very beautiful. Even more beautiful than the real thing". Her jewelry was intended to be a poke at the snob appeal of real jewelry. All costume jewelry is a fake in some aspect, but there can be a faked fake if the piece is purported to be a real fake Chanel creation but is - in reality - a reproduction.
