Chanel Fashion Jewelry LogoQ.After flipping through this month's W it struck me how many bags, sunglasses, and other "accessories" balatantly advertise the designer's logo. With the exception of Chanel's cardigans with the interlocking "CC" buttons and trim, very little haute couture or top-of-the-line bridge collections are so blatant. Personally, I find these signs rather obvious and in bad taste, but know that often these items are best-sellers. What's going on? Does a pair of sunglasses with "G" or "CC" on the side make them more stylish? What do you all think? IS there something I'm missing here? A.My feeling on this is that the logo somehow justifies the price. Personally, I really don't see the point in giving Gucci or Calvin $300-400 dollars for a pair of sunglasses, since I always break them or lose them. I think in a lot of ways fashion, especially in the accesories department, have steered away from quality to just *status*. It's not that I don't like designer labels, but just not on accesories. But I guess I am a hypocrite, cuz I sure like my Chanel belt with the interlocking Cs. So I guess I am talking non-sense. I apologize. Hey, how about *fake* stuff? I agree with you, but my how times have changed. In the 80's, there were the designer labels including LV (Louis Vuitton) and G (Gucci), and their knockoffs. The way I look at it, if they want me to be a walking billboard, pay me to carry it around. I personally go for the look. I like Coach looking bags for their classic looks but not because of the name. In fact, I prefer the stuff from Penney's that looks the same but costs 10% of the actual Coach price. I like the Chanel look, but not necessarily using Chanel clothes. Then there's the jewelry. In the 80's, the bigger the engagement ring the better you were marrying. I always got mine snagged on my hose, so I decided to trade it in (I purchased it at a pawn shop because I know about diamonds and when I sold it, I got what I paid for it). Now I wear a plain 4mm band and with my clearly polished nails, and everyone comments on the understated elegance of the look. So I'd rather have the money and spend it on what makes me happy instead of keeping up with the Joneses. It's too expensive and tiring. Besides, there's always someone thinner, richer, and smarter lurking around the corner.
