Chanel Cheap Fashion Jewelry

Q.I was getting ready to go out this evening and was thinking about all the jewelry purchases I have made over the last five years. I have so many 14k gold items that I don't care for anymore. I have developed a taste for aged sterling silver and semi-precious stones. I took my fiancee by a very cool new jewelry store that stocks lots of unusual new age and medieval jewelry. I drooled over the garnet poison rings. He smirked and refused to look saying that it was all "junk" jewelry and that it looked cheap. He told me to wait and he would buy me a few "good" pieces of jewely. For some reason his comment really bothered me. I feel fashion is important but one must also buy for yourself. In the fashion world is this kind of jewelry really considered "junk"? I was just wondering what everyone else wears these days...

A.Well first of all, Coco Chanel herself is the one who popularized "faux" jewelry...So something doesn't have to be from Tiffany's to be fashionable. Personally, there is nothing more vulgar-looking IMHO than an ostentacious (I know I misspelled that) thick gold rope around someone's neck. You're probably being more fashionable by being creative--even if it's not super expensive jewelry! Second of all, I personally prefer sterling over gold. I think gold is really ugly, but that's my personal opinion. I think sterling and semiprecious stones are a *far* cry from being junk... I would say wear what makes you happy. Trust yourself, your taste and your judgement. I would rather wear a somewhat unusual silver and garnet ring (and I am, by the way) than some ugly, mall-jewelry-store, 14K ruby ring that you'll see coming and going on everyone. Not to mention that unless you pay a staggering amount of money for your emerald or ruby or whatever, the quality will be poor. Cloudy, bad color and looking more like a lifesaver than a fine gem. With semi-precious stones, you can still find lovely, clear stones that will make you very happy
