Wedding Pictures

Q.I really loved the dragon flies in the bride's hair. Did you find them ready-to-wear or did you make them? It is such a nice touch. The flower girl dress is lovely. Is that your own design or can you share the pattern company / number? ( I have not flipped through the pattern books lately. Seems like every time I step foot in the fabric store, I come out with more stuff to add to my stash ... which does not need increasing.)

A.Older daughter has taken up beading in a big way, and makes custom jewelry she sells. (She has a web site, I'll post the URL if anyone wants to take a look.) She made the dragonfly hair ornaments, with special iridescent wing-shaped beads we found at Shipwreck Beads (NAYY), and created the shape using tiny iridescent beads for the bodies and eyes, and silver wire. I located the silver hair pins online. She also took apart an antique crystal necklace which belonged to their grandmother (and was a gift to her many years ago, from the grandfather they never met), and made the bride's wedding jewelry with the addition of Swarovski tanzanite beads. I think you can see the bridal jewelry in some of the pics. I sketched a dress for the bride that I thought would be wonderful, she agreed, and since there was no pattern which came in with all the elements, I used: the skirt and petticoat from Simplicity pattern #9018 (now unavailable), adding some additional fullness to the satin skirt, and adding the organza overskirt, and a small amount of gathers at the sides. The bodice I adapted from another Simplicity pattern, #7113, adding princess seams to the bodice *back* so it matched the "big girls", and slightly Vd front neckline in order to accommodate the jewelry DD found for the flowergirl. And the sleeves are from that pattern, too. The belt, which is sewn into the front waistline, and back-bow with streamers are also my addition. I lined the entire bodice, including the sleeves with Bemberg rayon, but added facings of the satin around the neckline.
