gown shop questionsQ.I'm thinking of opening a small bridal shop through which I can also run my event planning business. I am soliciting suggestions! What do you think could work better at a gown shop? What definately didn't work for you? Now, keep in mind this wouldn't be some awful bridal discount shop, nor would it be designer only. I hope to have many local dressmakers have their dresses on display, and would have the ability to order from the big manufacts. but I'm not looking to open some poofy bridezilla shop. A.Have a selection of undergarments on hand (various corsets and bras) to try on dresses with, and offer big white fluffy dressing gowns in every cabin, so that brides can walk out into the store to discuss which other dress to try on. Large cabins with mirrors and a bench, lots of hooks and hanging rods on the cabin walls is SO convenient. Offer a corsetière service, if you can find a seamstress that can do custom-made bras and undergarments. Or have a lingerie-section. Some romantic nightgowns? Maybe you'd get some non-bridal business that way. Or move your store next to a lingerie store and draw up a referral deal with them. Good lighting - natural and electrical - plush carpets and very soft classical music might set a nice ambience as well. A fresh flower bouquet on the counter at all times. A selection of bridal jewelry, small purses. A well-trained staff, polished, classy, *unfailingly polite* without being intimidating, who like people and are ready to offer 5-star service - even to not-so-rich brides - will also go a long way to make you the best!
