Who can tell me about Italy Jewelry ?
Q.I found a necklace in a parking lot. It is of a general yellowish-goldish color, but I don't own anything gold to compare it with. I have very little experience with jewelry. It has a few markings near the clasp. It is a little hard to read. Probably "417" in a box with "Italy" under it. On the other side is possibly "AA09*" and definitely "PGDA". On the clasp itself is possibly "AV". I can check at work tomorrow under the magnifying glass?
A.-Not sure about the other stuff, but "417" is the decimal equivalent of 10K gold. Meaning it's made of 10K gold. 10K means it's 10 parts gold to 24 parts pure 24K gold. The lower the Karat, the less gold there is. 24K, is pure gold, no alloys. Which is a weak metal. 18K, is a quite a bit more than half pure gold, with the other percentage being gold alloys, to make it stronger. 14K, is just like the 18K... just even more less gold. 12K, exactly half of pure gold and the other half being a gold alloy. 10K, is containing less than half of pure gold. And the lower the 'K', the stronger, but not purer. -can you explain how 417 = 10K? Maybe there are some websites containing this information you could point me to, including pictures of the markings so i can be sure? What is the other metal that is mixed with the gold? 10 parts gold to 14 parts of material X
