Jewelry-makingQ.I am part of the Medieval Society here at Moorhead State U (Moorhead, MN), but am not formally a member of SCA (yet). I have been to SCA events, tho...and the members here have been extremely helpful in helping me make my garb. However, the group here is also very small, and I cannot seem to find anyone who would have the time or the expertise to teach me some basic jewelry making. Basically, I would like to do bead and wire work--or anything that doesn't require a lot of specialized (and expensive) tools. Can anyone recommend some basic books to get me started? A.First a book on basic jewelry making, my suggestion is "The Complete Metalsmith" by Tim McCreight, which stresses hand working and basic jewelry technique. It's a good teaching/self learning book and has information on sources as well. You do not need a great deal of tools to start, but there are a few that almost mandatory, and he lists them. I will also be there (in Korsvag) for the upcoming Illumination workshop, so I for more infomration and I would be happy to talk metal with you.
