The Jewelry Exchange non certified diamondsQ.I am looking into buying a diamond and have some questions. I have never done this before, and I see that the "Jewelry Exchange" has 1 ct. non-certified diamonds for under $500. That is really inexpensive compared to prices I've seen anywhere. What are some of the problems that will come with these diamonds? The thing is, I am buying the diamond to be set in a ring and not as an investment. I've read about every article I can find about purchasing diamonds, and I dont necessarily care about exact dimensions of the cut, etc. I really just want it to look nice and last. A.Non-certified means that it's not graded for color, clarity, etc, as it couldn't pass a naked eye inspection. In other words, you will get a dark yellow stone with lots of clearly visible inclusions. You won't want to mount it in a ring. If you are looking to save money, get yourself a bright (clear) colored diamond, but one that has more flaws than usual, as long as they aren't visible to the naked eye. In diamond terms, you want color G,H,I,J (or maybe even K) and Clarity of VS1, VS2 or SI1. Cut is personal preference, and size is based on budget. That article is so disingenuous... -------------------------------------- "Conflict diamonds are diamonds that originate from areas controlled by forces or factions opposed to legitimate and internationally recognized governments, and are used to fund military action in opposition to those governments, or in contravention of the decisions of the Security Council." "A well-structured 'Certificate of Origin' regime can be an effective way of ensuring that only legitimate diamonds -- that is, those from government-controlled areas -- reach market. Additional controls by Member States and the diamond industry are needed to ensure that such a regime is effective. These measures might include the standardization of the certificate among diamond exporting countries, transparency, auditing and monitoring of the regime and new legislation against those who fail to comply."
