Aquamarine And Pearl Jewelry
Q.I'd like to find an artist or jeweller who can make custom high-quality jewelry for my PA. I'm interested in having some jewelry made with precious gemstones and inlays, something a step or two above the typical stainless/titanium/gold CBR with a semi-precious stone. If anyone could point out where I could find such an artist or manufacturer, I'd be greatful, especially if they have a website with samples shown.
A.Mother of Pearl _may_ durable enough to survive exposure to urine, but pearls certainly aren't. If you ever buy pearl fine jewelry, they tell you to carefully rinse and dry the string of pearls if you _sweat_. Turquoise is a porous stone, also a bad idea, especially since most turquois is "stabilized" with epoxy these days. If the stone isn't sealed, the color eventually fades to greenish...if you got a good quality stone to start with, instead of a bad piece that was dyed. I'd suggest you look at harder stones, like agate (all varieties), onyx (which is just another name for black/white agate), quartz of all varieties, garnet (though it's often dyed), carnelian, amethyst, topaz (all varieties, but keep in mind that the odd-colored ones are usually irradiated), peridot, ruby, emerald, sapphire, diamond, aquamarine, jade (jadite or nephrite), aventurine (the cheaper, softer cousin sometimes sold as jade), bloodstone (heliotrope), moonstone, hematite (hemalike, since most of what's sold is synthetic), sardonyx, and _possibly_ sunstone, tiger eye, and fluorite.
