Antique Discount JewelryQ.One of the dealers in my mall (and she is the most successful dealer there) says sales have no place in an antique store and are tacky. She advised me that when I want to drop the price on an item, to make a new tag for it. Yesterday, another old time dealer was talking about the store's policy of putting round yellow stickers on any item that does not belong in the store such as reproductions. This is to tell the dealer the next time they come in to remove the item. She noticed that more items with the yellow stickers sold because people thought the item was on sale. So what are your thoughts on this? Sale stickers a great motivator to move merchandise or tacky and inappropriate? A.However, here's a story from my area, concerns a rather particular up-market antique shop (I'll not mention name or location - but it ain't NJ) they sell furniture, silver, glass, posh English and German porcelain and all the rest and all antique no repro. They are also jewellery dealers, some antique but mostly big flashy new stuff, knock your eye out diamond and emerald rings etc., etc., you know the kind of stuff. Anyways, just after the New Year they have what they call their "Annual New Year Sale" this has been going on for at least the last 8 years. EVERYTHING!!!!! is reduced in price (including the new jewellery) they work on large profit margins with mind boggling price tags. Some item will be reduced by up to **50%-60%** discount. All clearly marked with special "SALE" price stickers and the shop window covered with a "NEW YEAR SALE" banner, now considering the original asking prices (price tags) these discounts look staggering, are indeed staggering. Their New Year sale continues for the whole week, ONE week ONLY, starting on Tuesday and finishing on Saturday closing at 6pm but here's the funny part, well I think it's funny. When the sale ends, the following week the prices go back up to the original asking (price tags) yes back up!! ... anyways even with their up to 50% discount sale price on some item ya still couldn't afford to buy the bloody stuff. Here's the best bit. Now the owner has told me this herself (seriously) I know her pretty well. Some folk wander back in weeks later (following the end of the sale) and asked ... "do you still have the what-d'you-call-it that was in the sale? I didn't have the money at the time to buy it in the sale but have now, so how much is the full price on it?" ... and then they turn around and BUY IT!! with maybe only at best 5% discount Other Questions : Brooks Fine Jewelry information ?Brooks Fine Jewelry information ?Brooks Fine Jewelry manufactures metal mold findings in sterling silver, 14 karat yellow gold, and 14 karat white gold at competitive prices. http://www.brooksfinejewelry.com...
